The Ivy Tree

October 31, 2012

Mary Grey’s life isn’t what one would wish. She spent her last few dollars to travel from Canada to the UK, where she lives in a dingy apartment and works in a cafe. Then, on a day trip into the countryside, she meets the dangerous and charismatic Connor, who mistakes Mary for a long-lost heiress, Annabel Winslow. Due to Mary’s poverty, her remarkable resemblance to Annabel, and Con’s passionate desire to manipulate Annabel’s dying grandfather into willing the Winslow land to him, a plan emerges: Mary will pose as the presumably-dead Annabel and ensure that Con gets what he wants. In exchange, Mary will receive a competence. All is going well until a man from Annabel’s past appears–and Mary realizes that her life may be in as much danger as Annabel’s had been eight years earlier.

Cecily

October 30, 2012

Cecily Hadley has had a hard time. Impoverished after her father’s death, estranged from her morally-unacceptable uncle, and chaperoned only by the “dragon”-like Miss Dowie, Cecily has no recourse to support herself but the stage. And the stage is no respectable place for a proper young lady to be! In less than a week, the seemingly dreadful but rather pretty actress is already the rage of the ton. Then, she encounters Robert Ranleigh (of course, the “reigning gallant” of Regency London), who also happens to be a distant relation. Propriety requires that he save her (and their family’s reputation) from disgrace by removing her from her awkward situation at once.

Hugh is doing well with his assignment, too–until he rescues Rebecca Westcott from a rogue in the street. When Rebecca insists on “saving” her street thief by installing him as a servant in her family’s house, Hugh struggles to maintain his disguise. As for Rebecca, she cannot understand why she feels that the rough and criminal servant is the only man she could ever love . . . if she could save him from himself.
